When my son Alex turned 16 I started thinking about his future. I asked questions, , searched for options, turned every page, and finally, tired and despaired I fell upon the Camphill movement. Here was something that made sense to me, a possibility for a bright future, friends, family, curative learning, celebration, healthy conscientious living for people with special needs and those who support them. Metta Terre was conceived and the future is bright.

As a long time teacher at Summit, a school for children with special needs; I am often faced with the question by parents of whats next. "What does my child do when they are 21?". It has been a dream of mine to create spaces for adults with special needs, I had just been waiting for the right idea and the right time in my life. When Joan, a then parent of a student in my class approached me with the idea of community housing, I thought, this is it!! Maybe my four children aren't quite as old as I had hoped, but the time is right! I fell in love with the Camphill movement and am happy to be a part of a new beginning for young people and adults with special needs.

I'm Alex, when I move out I want to live at Metta Terre with friends, in a family home. I want to belong to this new family and actively work towards making our world a more loving place for us all. I plan on working at the market and with the chickens. Peace Out.
Hi, I'm Atara, my mother Erika is on the Board of Metta. I love spending time with my Metta family and hope that the Metta Terre community opens soon. I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter of my life living and working with my friends and chosen family at Metta Terre.
